The role of the campus setting in supporting the core missions of higher education is of particular interest of the professionals at BMS Design Group. Our projects include support to strategic planning initiatives, siting and concept plans for new campuses, as well as strategies for the expansion and revitalization of existing campuses. In our work for small private institutions, large public universities, medical centers, and research laboratories, we have found that the university shares many attributes with the village, town and city, and requires many of the same interventions. Also, the relationship of the institution with its host community is of critical importance, and our work in economic development, transportation planning and urban revitalization is often concerned with the town/gown relationship and its inherent opportunities.
