Michael Smiley is an urban designer, land planner and landscape architect with over 30 years of professional experience on a wide range of projects for private and public clients. He has extensive project experience in the United States, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Michael's work includes large-scale land planning, urban and waterfront planning, downtown revitalization, campus planning and design, regional land use planning, suburban district renovation, resort and tourism planning and site-specific design for urban streets, plazas, parks and housing.
In addition to his work as a private consultant, Michael has been a Lecturer and Visiting Scholar at Stanford University where he has taught urban design courses in the Program on Urban Studies.
Prior to establishing BMS Design Group, Michael was a Principal with Sasaki Associates, where he was a founder and Director of Planning and Urban Design for the firm's San Francisco office (1988-1993) and Dallas, Texas office (1985-1988).
